A sex predator who befriended a student by carrying her shopping later crept into her garden and subjected her to a brutal rape.

Awais Khan, 26, approached his victim at Witton train station late on July 2 after she had been shopping with a friend.

He insisted on carrying her shopping and continued talking to her until he discovered the 20-year-old’s address.

Days later the chicken.com worker, of Witton Road, climbed into her back garden over a wall and lay in wait until the student was home alone.

He then invited himself into her house and forced himself upon her in a prolonged attack.

Jailing him for seven-years and four months Judge Nicholas Cole praised the victim and her family who attended court to see twisted Khan locked up.

He said; “The victim in this case is at the forefront of my mind carrying out this sentencing exercise.
“I commend her bravery and her family for attending and their dignity at having to listen to the details of the vile and disgusting acts you inflicted on her.”

The judge went told he sick fried chicken worker; “You insisted on carrying her bags, not out of being helpful but as part of a grooming process.

“You gave her a false name and found out where she lived, you later supplied her with cannabis.
“Four days later you attended outside her home and could be clearly seen on CCTV climbing over a fence to get into an area behind the house and were hiding in the garden.

“You were watching the house. That clearly give rise to an element of pre-meditation and planning.
“Once her male friend had left you approached and came into the house uninvited.”

Inside twisted Khan told the woman she owed him £40 for the cannabis he gave her and some cash he forced her to take.
When she refused to pay he said the cost was £80 and she would have to have sex with him to repay the debt.

He even told her; “I’m only doing this because I need to teach you a lesson because you lied to me.”
In a victim statement the woman said she had been unable to scream during the ordeal and that she was scared what Khan would do if she tried to fight him off.

Following the attack she made her way to a neighbour’s house barefoot and told them what had happened.

Khan, who lived above the chicken shop where he worked on Witton Road, was arrested and initially denied raping the woman.

However at court he pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

Joseph Keating, defending, said Khan had a wife and two children and faced deportation back to Pakistan on his release.

He said the takeaway worker was full or remorse and had pleaded guilty to spare his victim the further ordeal of giving evidence.

“He accepts responsibility and understands there is a difference between pressurised compliance and consent.

“All of his hard work and future intentions without a shadow of a doubt have been lost.”

Speaking after the hearing, investigating officer DC Gavin McGrath said: “This young woman endured a sickening ordeal at the hands of Khan, who had planned his attack for a number of days.
“There are no excuses or grey areas when it comes to rape − if someone says no, then it is a criminal offence and our officers are have a proven track record for bringing offenders to justice.”
